Bobcat has once again redefined what’s possible in compact equipment with the launch of its new R2-Series 1-2 tonne mini excavators. Showcased for the first time at Bauma 2025, the new lineup—including the E16, E17z, E19, and E20z—delivers advanced technology, greater precision, and operator comfort, all in the robust, compact form customers have come to trust.

Next-Gen Performance Built on Decades of Experience
The new R2-Series models replace the previous M-Series, originally introduced in 2014, marking a decade of innovation and customer feedback brought to life. The result is a new generation of machines with a striking fresh look and significant technical upgrades designed to boost productivity and efficiency on any jobsite.
At the heart of this evolution is Bobcat’s high-performance SmartFlow Hydraulic System—an advanced combination of a load-sensing pump and a closed center, flow-sharing main control valve, typically found in much larger excavators. This system ensures power on demand and allows operators to perform multiple hydraulic functions simultaneously, even when using demanding attachments like flail mowers. The result? Faster, smoother operation without sacrificing control or precision.
Less Fuel, Less Noise, Less Vibration
Efficiency has also taken a significant leap forward. The new R2-Series machines deliver up to 18% lower fuel consumption, reducing both costs and environmental impact. Meanwhile, operating noise has been reduced by up to 3 dBA, translating to a 50% decrease in sound energy—a crucial advantage for urban or noise-sensitive environments. Operators can expect less vibration and more comfort during long shifts.

E16 – Lightweight & Transport-Friendly
Replacing the E17, the new E16 weighs in at just 1612 kg, shedding 100 kg compared to its predecessor. This reduced weight keeps it within critical transport limits, making it easy to tow with vans or trailers across most European countries, while still excelling in tight, confined workspaces.
E17z – Zero House Swing Excellence
The E17z Zero House Swing (ZHS) mini excavator takes the benefits of Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) further, offering extra protection for the machine’s front upper structure corners within its swing radius. With an operating weight of 1712 kg, it’s a perfect fit for narrow urban environments, historic districts, and areas where space is at a premium.
E19 – Compact Powerhouse
A bestseller in the previous generation, the new E19 weighs 1905 kg and offers an exceptional mix of digging performance, lifting capacity, and compact size. It’s the machine of choice for professionals seeking maximum performance under the 2-tonne threshold.
E20z – Top of the Range in Compact Form
With an operating weight of 1980 kg, the E20z is a ZHS model offering an impressive 320° of free rotation close to structures—without sacrificing comfort or performance. Unique in its class, it comes with a full-size cab, setting it apart from competitors who typically offer canopy-only options in this size.
